PURVIS , RUBY JONES
Retired from Hammond Developmental Center and resident of Independence, she died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at her residence. She was 89 and a native of Livingston Parish. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Visitation at New Hope Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Hicks. Interment in Bankston Cemetery, Fourth Ward. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jessie Monroe and Betty Bigner Purvis of Walker and Jackie Hulie and Virginia Glascock Purvis of Albany; a daughter and son-in-law, Joe Wayne and Kay Purvis Gersch of Independence; a son-in-law, Charles Thomas Foster of Walker; a sister, Lois Jones Sauls of Aiken, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by her husband, Hulie Roy Purvis ; a daughter, Colleen Purvis Foster; a grandson, Hulie Ray Purvis ; father, John William "Gus" Jones ; mother, Almedia Kinchen Jones ; two sisters, Jessie Jones Watts and Ethel Jones ; and three brothers, Homer William Jones , Arthur Edward Jones and Norman Wesley Jones . Pallbearers will be Joe Wayne Gersch Jr., Jackie Hulie Purvis Jr., Josh Purvis , Charles Thomas Foster Jr., Jessie Monroe Purvis Jr. and Paul Purvis . Honorary pallbearers are Jerri Foster Gregoire, Pam Purvis Wascom, Tamara Purvis Perise, Charla Gersch Burchfield, Sharmon Purvis Thompson, Lesley Purvis Sherman and Amanda Nicole Gersch. She had lived in the Fourth Ward community since she was 14 years old. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
