Death of Mrs. Edward Hayes
Flossie Hayes, wife of Edward Hayes, and youngest daughter of Zephaniah and Elizabeth Heustis, was born January 28, 1867. She united with the M.E. Church under the labors of Rev. M. L. Wells during his pastorate while stationed at Laurenceburgh, in 1878. Was married to Edward Hayes on February 10, 1885. This union resulted in the birth of three children, viz.: Jane Elizabeth, Edward Lindon and Zephaniah, the latter being only 10 days old. During her sickness she suffered much, but for her affliction with great resignation, and would repeatedly say to her husband, father, sisters and to a host of friends: "do not weep for me; I am prepared to go." To her pastor, Rev. G. S. Conner, he said: "I desire to give all my children to God in Baptism before I die; won't you baptize them?" The sacrament of baptism was administered to the three children January 26, 1890, in the presence of the father, mother and friends. She then said: "I am now ready; they have sent for me and I am ready to go."
She leaves a husband, father and stepmother (who was a mother to her), four sisters, one brother, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
Flossie died January 28, 1890.
