A GOLDEN WEDDING
Also a Brand New One in the Same Family
Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Otha Hayes at Elizabethtown--Reunion of Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren
One of the most notable assemblies that has gathered in Elizabethtown, Ohio, for years was that at the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Otha Hayes at their residence yesterday. A few days ago the intimate friends of the family received the following reminder handsomely printed on heavy card-board in golden letters and fancy type:
1885 1885
Fiftieth Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Otha Hayes
Sunday Morning, March 5th at 10 O'Clock
Elizabethtown, Ohio

In response to this a large crowd filled the Hayes mansion, and found not only a golden wedding but another and a newer wedding, as W. Hulbert Hayes, one of the sons of the aged couple, was married at the same time to Miss Belle Littrell, thus completing the happiness of the occasion. Of course, the day was one of feasting and good humor, being a family reunion, tempered with a sprinkling of outside friends. The family is one of the oldest in this part of the State, as will be seen by the following:
Otha Hayes was born in Dearborn County, Ind., May 28, 1810. Elizabeth Hayes, his wife was born in Dearborn County, Ind., May 3, 1818. Sixteen children have been born to Otha and Eliza Hayes--fourteen boys and two girls--as follows: Henry Hayes, Solomon Hayes, Job M. Hayes, Ezra H. Hayes, Calvin Hayes, Joseph H. Hayes, Barley H. Hayes, Enoch M. Hayes, Robert Hayes, Otha H. Hayes, Nancy S. Hayes, John Hayes, Thomas M. Hayes, Queen E. Hayes, Anthony C. Hayes and William H. Hayes. There are seven dead and nine living. There were six children present, and two-hundred and fifty-two relatives and friends. There are about four hundred relatives of the Hayes living in Ohio. Otha and Eliza Hayes have fifty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They joined the Methodist Episcopal Church September, 1838, under Charles Bonner Haden Hayes. Otha Hayes was born in Dearborn County six years before Indiana became a State. The good old couple have lived in Hamilton County, Ohio, forty-nine years, and have lived in their present home forty-three years. Job M. Miller and Sarah Miller are the parents of Eliza Hayes, the better-half in the fifty years matrimonial journey.
One of the pleasant features of the occasion was a carefully prepared and printed genealogy tree of the Hayes family, written by Samuel Morrison, of Indianpolis, as follows:
Captain Joseph Hayes was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1732; served as a Captain through the Revolutionary War; emigrated West, and settled at North Bend, A. D. 1791. He and his wife, Joanna Hayes, daughter, Priscilla Miller, and her husband, Thomas Miller, and Joseph Hayes, jun., May, 1796, removed West into Dearborn County, Indiana. The children of Captain Joseph and Joanna Hayes were: Solomon Enoch, Job, Jane, Phoebe, Priscilla, Joanna and Joseph Hayes, jun.
The children married as followed: Jane married James Conner, Phoebe married Thos. Conner, a brother of James; Priscila married Thomas Miller, Joanna married James Bennet, Solomon married Polly Craig. It is not known who the other sons married. Solomon and Polly Hayes' children were: Hannah, Henry, John, Rebecca, Joseph, Walter, Jacob, Nancy, Phebe and Jane. The marriages were as follows: Hannah married Banner Conner, her cousin, and never came West: Rebecca married Timothy Guard, Nancy died unmarried, Phebe married Samuel Freeman, Jane married Charles Billingsley, John died unmarried, Joseph married Nancy Billingsley, and it is not known who Henry married. Walter married Nancy Hayes, his cousin: Jacob married Polly Bennet, his cousin, for his first wife, Nancy Hayes for his second, and Leah Hayes for his third. The children of Joseph and Nancy Hayes were: Otha, Eliza, Rachel, Mary, Solomon, Nancy, Sarah, Hannah, Priscilla, and Ezra G.
Otha Hayes and Eliza Miller were married March 15, 1885, their golden wedding being held yesterday, at which time their son, Wm. Hulbert Hayes, was married to Miss Belle Littrell. The presents were numerous and most magnificent to both the old couple and the new contracting parties. Many presents were in the shape of gold for the old couple. Mr. and Mrs. George Fitch giving fifty gold dollars, and other ten, twenty and twenty-five dollars in the bright coin. Among those present as donors to the two bridal couples were:
