Per The Dearborn County, Register 9/7/1933 Lawrenceburg, Indiana
Earle P. Gooden
~ Earle P. Gddden was born at Paoli, Indiana, April' 16,1884, the son of William Thomas and Harriet Frazer Gooden.
From boyhood he evinced a sense-of humor and a disposition to laugh rather than cry, to dwell in the sunshine in preference to the shadows. Such a characteristic caused him to make and hold friends and stood him in good stead during years of physical af'fliction that would have blighted other lives.'
He passed .through the public schools, most of which were under the supervision of his father, and finished his schooling at Moores Hill College, Hanover College and Indiana University.
In 1900, shortly after his father had become one of the proprietors of the Lawrenceburg Register, Earle P. Gooden came to Lawrenceburg. All of his civic and business interests have been identified with this city of his adoption, for which he had a great affection. Among the services he rendered without any expectation of reward was the secretaryship of the local Kiwanis Club.. He was the first
secretary and held office until forced to relinquish it because of impaired health.
Earle P. Gooden and Abbie McKim were married on May 5, 1910. To this union were born two daughters, Dorothy and Lucy Ann. Theirs was a happy family, because love was there. He proved himself a devoted husband and a loving and indulgent father. The wife and daughters manifested their
affection by the tireless, unfaltering tenderness and care bestowed upon him during weeks and months of physical suffering and weakness.
Earle P: Gooden, whose every moment for thirteen years was attended by a black, impending shadow, had reason it seems to us, if any man ever had for being gloomy, despondent, fearful and bitter; but that wasn't Earle P. Gooden. as we knew him.
Instead, he was cheerful, hopeful, courageous and kind. Such a life he has left to our memories. Such lives are too few.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 31, at Fitch Bros. Funeral Home at 2 o'clock, with the Rev..J. Roby Oldham, D. D., pastor of the Beecher Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in the Greendale cemetery.
