AMITE -- The 12th annual Amite Oyster Festival is scheduled here March 20-21.
The carnival midway opens the first day at 3 p.m. and the band Southern Pride is to play at 6 p.m.
A parade, with Andrew Silbernagel as king, opens the Saturday activity at 10 a.m. The oyster bars and music from several bands open at 11 a.m. Oyster-eating contests begin at 3:30 p.m. and music is to continue until 11 p.m.

Visiting at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 8 to 9:40 a.m. Monday. Religious services at St. Helena Catholic Church, Amite, 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by Father Fred Youngs. Burial in Roberts Cemetery, Hillsdale. Survived by wife, Marguerite Durnin Silbernagel, Hillsdale; two daughters, Dianne S. Daniel, Metairie, and Sandra S. Solar, Slidell; a son, John A. Silbernagel, Jonesboro, Ga.; two sisters, Helena S. Guerin, and Evelyn S. LeBlanc, both of Metairie; a brother, John C. Silbernagel, Harahan; and six grandchildren, Patricia, Andrew, and Joseph Silbernagel, Timothy and Christopher Daniel, and Richard Parker. Preceded in death by parents, John H. and Helen H. Andrew Frederick Silbernagel, a retired general agent of Southern Railway System, died Friday at Westpark Community Hospital in Hammond. He was 78. Mr. Silbernagel was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for 20 years. He was a graduate of Warren Easton High School and attended Tulane University. He was former president of the Kenner Lions Club, the Amite Lions Club and the Kenner American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 2624. He was former chairman of the Amite Oyster Fesitval and was its king in 1987. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Helena Catholic Church of Amite, La. Survivors include his wife, Maguerite D. Silbernagel; a son, John; two daughters, Dianne Daniel and Sandra Solar; two sisters, Helena Guerin and Evelyn LeBlanc; a brother, John; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Hillsdale, La.
