Thomas F. Miller, 88, a lifelong resident of Elmhurst, died Nov. 4 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Miller was born Dec. 21, 1918 in Harrison, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas and Rebecca Miller. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II. Mr. Miller was a mechanical engineer, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and past president of the Salt Creek Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers. In July, he was inducted into the Order of the Engineer.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Ruthe (nee Johnston); his children, Kathleen, Kevin and Daniel; and his sister, Marjorie Armstrong.
He was preceded in death two of his children, Deborah and Tommy, and by his brother, Robert.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Christ United Methodist Church, 920 S. Swain, Elmhurst, IL 60126. Memorials may be made to the church.
Arrangements were made by Ahlgrim Funeral Home in Elmhurst.

Announcement has been made of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Ruthe Johnston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Johnston of Park Ridge, Ill., to Thomas F. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Miller of Yorktown. Miss Johnston is business manager of the Fort Wayne Civic Theater and received a B. F. A. degree from the College of Fine Arts at Drake University in 1946. A member of Alpha Xi Delta, social sorority, and Zeta Phi Eta, national professional speech and arts fraternity, she also is affiliated with Theta Alpha Phi, national drama fraternity. Mr. Miller was graduated from Yorktown High School and from Purdue University, later attending the Northwestern University school of speech in Chicago. He was a lieutenant in the air force, stationed in England, and is a mechanical engineer at the Link-Belt Corporation in Chicago. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi fraternity.
