Death of Well-Known Realty and Cotton Man.
Frederick Hufft, a well-known figure in the cotton and real estate world of New Orleans, and one of the organizers of the United Ancient Order of Druids in the city, will be buried from the residence of his brother, Louis Hufft, Mo. 1051 Robert Street , at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The funeral services will be conducted by the Masons, and interment will be made in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.
Mr. Hufft died in Covington, La., on Thursday evening at 7 o'clock, from tuberculosis of the larynx, and his body was brought to the city yesterday morning and removed to his brother's home. Last night a constant stream of sorrowing friends visited the home to console the members of his bereaved family, and the funeral will probably be one of the largest in the upper section of the city in some time.
Mr. Hufft was born in this city on Oct. 20, 1867, and was 43 years, 4 months and 2 days old. He received his primary education in the public schools, completing his studies in the school of Prof. Dietz. Immediately after leaving school he went to work for the firm of John T. Hardio & Co., cotton brokers, and for twenty-four years was identified with the firm, making thousands of friends in the cotton world, who always remembered his bright and cheery disposition.
On Sept. 1, 1905, he went into the real estate business with his brother, Louis, under the firm name of Hufft Brothers, and successfully conducted the business up to June 1, 1908, when failing health forced him to retire. He then moved to Covington and opened up a real estate office. He gave this up some years ago and lately has been running a pool and billiard hall, which he was operating at the time of his death.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 59, F. and A. M., and the organizer of Elvin Lodge No. 24, of the United Ancient Order of Druids. He held every office in the lodge, and was past grand treasurer of the Grand Grove of Louisiana.
He was married in 1890 to Miss Mary A. Walter, who, with four children, Misses Edna and Amy and John and Edward, survive. A mother and three brothers, Lawrence, Louis and Charles J.-are also left to mourn his loss.
