Fern was born in Lucas County, near Russell, to Dewey & Nora (Hixson) Sellers on September 13, 1928. She attended country schools and Chariton High School.
She married Dale Cottrell on February 14, 1947 at the home of Rev. Archie Beals. During their 65 years of marriage, Fern was a full time wife and mother to three girls. Family was very important for Fern and she always put them first in her life with holidays always being a very special time.
As a farm wife Fern participated in all phases of the farming operation and was very active in the raising and caring of livestock, with chickens and raising a large garden being her favorite chores. Most of their married life was spent on their farm in Wayne County moving to Chariton upon retirement.
Fern was survived by her husband, Dale; daughters: Linda (Larry) Chase; Joyce (Mike Thomas); Janet (Dewey) Abrahamson; grandchildren: Michelle (Dave) Hyman; Brenda (Brian) Kotewa; Anne Thomas; Lisa (Michael) Taylor; Brian (Dottie) Abrahamson; Megan (Felix) Munoz; and Sara (Josey) Hanes; great grandchildren: Cortney, Matthew, & Branden Hyman; Julia & Gabriel Kotewa; Yesmina, Leah and Braxton Thomas; Giana Taylor; and Laura, Justin & Christopher Abrahamson.
Also surviving are sisters: Wilma Johnson; Marilyn (Jack) James; and Wretha Paige; sister-in-laws: Dorothy Sellers, Ethel Prough-Printy, and Doris (Ronald)Christensen. Also many nieces, nephews and the great staff at the Susie Tuttle Dialysis Unit in Corydon who became family over the last several years.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Sellers; and brother-in-laws: Frank Johnson, Don Paige and Junior Prough.
