The marriage this evening of Miss Virginia Elizabeth Halleck, daughter of Mrs. Maurice E. Norton of Washington, D. C., and Mr. Norton, to Mr. George Edmund Crane, Jr., will take place in New Orleans this morning at 9 o'clock in the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus. It will be a quiet event and there will be no reception following. The attendant on the bride will be Miss Elizabeth Thayler Crane, sister of Mr. Crane, and Mr. Gerard Francis McGinn will be best man to the bridegroom. The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. Father Harry L. Crane, S. J., uncle of the bridegroom-elect.

Among events here Saturday morning was the marriage of Miss Virginia Elizabeth Halleck, daughter of Mrs. Maurice E. Norton of Washington, D. C., to Mr. George Edmund Crane, Jr., now of Washington, D. C., formerly of New Orleans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Crane of this city. The ceremony took place at 9 o'clock at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus on St. Charles avenue, with the Rev. Harry L. Crane, S. J., uncle of the bridegroom, officiating in the presence of an interesting gathering of relatives and friends.
The bride, given in marriage by Mr. Crane, father of the bridegroom, wore a light blue wool suit, a black hat and black accessories and her corsage bouquet was of pale pink camellias. Her only attendant was the bridegroom's sister, Miss Elizabeth Thayer Crane, who wore a pale yellow wool suit, a hat of brown felt and brown accessories. Her corsage was of bronze and yellow chrysanthemums.
There was no reception following the ceremony. Mr. Crane and his bride leaving immediately after on a short trip. They will return to New Orleans for a few days visit to Mr. Crane's parents before going to Washington to reside.

Mr. and Mrs. George Edmund Crane, Jr., left Monday for Washington, D. C., where they will make their home, residing at No. 3300 E street, Southeast. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Crane was celebrated here recently. Mrs. Crane is the former Miss Virginia Elizabeth Halleck, daughter of Mrs. Maurice E. Norton of Washington and Mr. Crane is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Crane of New Orleans.

Elizabeth Jalleck Crane "Bette"
In 1941, Bette Halleck met George Crane in the elevator of the FBI Building in Washington
DC. where both worked. After being engaged for a year, they traveled by train to his home-town of New Orleans where they were wed. Six months later George enlisted in the Army and Bette followed him wherever he was sent for training. During the war Bette lived in DC. with her mom, and for two years her homemade cookies and daily letters followed George across Europe. After the war, they settled in New Orleans and were blessed with seven "Whooping"Cranes. In 1967, George and Bette moved their family to Shreveport. where they were longtime parishioners of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. On Tuesday, January 13, 2015, Bette followed George one last time to their heavenly home where he has been waiting for her since his death in 1995 along with their son, Christopher. who died as an infant. Also waiting for Bette were her parents, Walter and Irene Halleck, her sister, Helen, her brother, Maurice, and daughter- in-law, Patsy.
Left to cherish their Mom's memories are her six children... Richard and his wife.,Eileen, of Mandeville, Sandi and her husband, Rene Bergeret, Jeff, Scott, and Patti and her husband, Jeff
Roberts, all of Shreveport, and Keith and his wife Susan of Covington. Each has their own special memories of her, but all recall she was a talented artist who never hesitated to use her gift to enhance their school projects. Likewise, they will remember her baking skills, especially her renowned sour cream pound cake and "Orange Blossoms:, and her specialty... the hot fudge sundae. She will be remembered by her thirteen grandchildren:Trey (Erin), Jeffrey (Allison), Jason (Kari), Chris, Nicole (Ada m), Michael (Sarah), Michelle, Matthew, Amy (Chris), Patrick. Daniel (Sally), Andrew (Kristen). and Jordan; and her thirteen great-grandchildren: Avery, Camryn, Ford, Caroline, Maya, Crews, Carter, Samuel, Grant,Elizabeth, Jonathan, Ben, and Max (due in February), who lovingly called her Gram. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother,
sister, aunt, grandmother. and great-grandmother who was definitely loved "a bushel and a peck" by all!
Bette was born in Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on February 10, 1921 and spent her formative years in Massachusetts, graduating from Watertown High School in 1938. Her brother, Walter Halleck of Maryland survives her along with numerous relatives.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Richard Sipes of Cardinal Care, the nurses and staff on the 8th floor of Willis-Knighton Pierremont, and at Grace Home for the excellent care of their mother.
A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.There will be a private family graveside service at Forest Park Cemetery.
