General:

Per The Hayes Family
Apparently about 1801 or later Caleb, Jr., took his family down the Ohio river until they came to Laughery Creek, below Aurora, Ind. This stream is too large to be called a creek and winds around and through the peaceful valleys of southeastern Indiana for a distance of 75 miles. It overflows its banks with heavy rains and spreads out over the productive acres on each side of it. Up this stream went Dr. Caleb Hayes, Jr., for about 20 miles until he came to another small stream, where he settled and ever since this has been called Hayes Branch. Here he lived for about twenty years with his second wife, Leah Hayes, and this was the birthplace of his last six children.
