MURPHYSBORO - Jacob C. "Jake" Goble, 86, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 in the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Crenshaw Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to TIP Hospice, Jehovah's Witnesses or the United Methodist
Church.
Mr. Goble was in sales and management, both retail and wholesale. He managed radio stations in Iowa and central and Southern Illinois from 1950 to 1980, when he retired. His most enjoyable years in
radio were spent in Effingham, Charleston and Du Quoin. He especially enjoyed his 12 years at WDQN in Du Quoin.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190, American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 and BPOE Elks 572. He was a member of Murphysboro Senior Citizens and Greater St. Louis Major League Baseball since 1970. Jake served in Rennes,
France, as supply sergeant for the 199th General Hospital in World War II.
He was born Oct. 8, 1915, in Westfield to Jacob C. and Nellie (Wohlford) Goble.
He married Mary L. Williams on Dec. 8, 1943, in Bay City, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Gary Watson of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara and O.K. VanSlett of Charleston, SC; one son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Col. Jacob
F. and Toni Goble of Enon, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Bill Richards of San Antonio, Texas; and one brother-in-law and wife, Don and Paula Williams of Port
Lavaca, Texas.
His parents and five stepsisters preceded him in death.
