Bouquets of white roses, tulips stock, and chrysanthemums trimmed the altar of Mater Delorosa church Saturday morning for the marriage of Miss Helen Cecile Edwards, daughter of Mr. John Henry Edwards and the late Mrs. Cecile Fabacher Edwards, to Mr. James Hibbs Farris, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norburn R. Farris of Salem, Ky. The 11 o'clock ceremony was performed by the Rt. Rev. Joseph Pyzikiewicz, pastor of the church. At either side of the entrance of the sanctuary was a standard holding a bouquet of the blossoms.
The bride entered the church with her father, who gave her in marriage. Her bridal gown of candlelight silk taffeta was fashioned with a round decolletage finished with scalloped Alencone lace sprinkled with seed pearls. The long sleeves which tapered to points over the wrists were trimmed with tiny pearl buttons and the full skirt adorned with medallions of the lace fell into a long train. A cap of lace trimmed across the back with tiny roses held her finger tip length veil of illusion. The bride carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Richard Burke Reynaud was her sister's matron of honor. The maid of honor was Miss Dorothy Reynaud. The other attendants included Mrs. Walter Darrell Higgins, Mrs. Francis M. Delorme, and Miss Ann Marie Oertling, a cousin of the bride. Their emerald green taffeta gowns were fashioned with scooped necklines, cap sleeves, and elongated bodices from which fell bouffant patio length skirts. Their satin Slippers were dyed to match the color of their gowns. On their heads they wore open work matching velvet caps. Their bouquets were of white camellias.
Flower girls were little Ellen and Margaret Cecile Coogan, nieces of the bride, and Patricia Farris, niece of the bridegroom. Their floor length frocks were made along similar lines to those of the attendants and they carried nose gays of white violets.
Dr. Joseph A. Farris of Baton Rouge, La. was his brother's best man. The groomsmen and ushers included Dr. Harry Abell and Dr. Frank Farris, both of Paducah, Messrs. Roy Matheny of Houston, Tex., and Thomas Edwards and John Henry Edwards Jr., brothers of the bride.
The Danneel st. home of Mrs. O. A. Trorlicht, aunt of the bride, was the setting for the reception, which immediately followed the ceremony. The receiving line formed in the drawing room in front of the mantel piece, which was trimmed with a long arrangement of white blossoms and banked with magnolia leaves. Clusters of similar blossoms trimmed the reception rooms of the home, and the patio enclosed with a white marquee was garnished with southern smilax.
Mrs. John Henry Edwards headed the receiving line, wearing a navy blue chiffon gown trimmed at the square neckline with matching lace. The full skirt was ornamented at each side with a panel of the lace and the elbow length sleeves were shirred. On her head she wore a small hat of tiny ice blue and white flowers. her corsage bouquet was of white orchids. Mrs. Trorlicht assisted in receiving, wearing a sheath gown of beige lace trimmed with a matching crepe sash and elbow length sleeves. Her head-hugging hat was of the lace. Pinned at one shoulder was a corsage bouquet of brownish green orchids.
Later in the day Mr. Farris and his bride left on a motoring trip to Florida and upon their return will reside in an apartment at 4504 S. Johnson st. The bride chose for her "going away" outfit a light charcoal gray suit, gray straw hat piped in red, black accessories, and a corsage bouquet of white orchids.
Out-of-town guests here for the wedding included Dr. and Mrs. Frank Farris, Dr. and Mrs. Harry Abell of Paducah, and Dr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Farris of Baton Rouge.
