CHILD DROWNED IN FALL IN LAKE
A one-year-old child drowned in an accident at her grandfather's camp on Lake Pontchartrain Sunday to become the first New Orleans accident fatality in the long Labor Day week end.
She was Eleanor Garic, one of twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Garic, 435 S. Cortez.
Fifth District police said the accident involving the Garic child happened at the camp of her grandfather, Rudy Bauer, at 582½ Hayne blvd., on Lake Pontchartrain while the family was on an outing.
They surmised the child crawled through two doors of a back room onto the back porch, then fell some eight feet into 14 inches of grass-filled water.
Her father, who missed her about 5:30 p. m., found her lying head down in the water, after he had called police for help.
Artificial Respiration Fails
Sgt. Albert Moustier, acting lieutenant assigned to the Fifth District, cruising in a patrol car with Ptn. Horace Lee, called for an ambulance and a crash truck.
Police emergency unit No. 2 administered artificial respiration with a pulmotor, but a Charity hospital doctor pronounced the child dead at 6:30 p. m.
The coroner ordered the body to the morgue and said a post mortem would be performed Monday. The child's twin sister, Elizabeth, was at the camp with her parents at the time of the tragedy.

Relatives and friends of the family, also employes of Washington National Insurance Company, are invited to attend the funeral, on Tuesday, September 8, 1953, at 3:30 o'clock p. m., from the auxillary funeral home of Jacob Schoen and Son, 3827 Canal street at North Scott. Religious services at Sacred Heart church, Canal and Lopez streets.
