Rev. Louis Joseph Derbes
DERBES Rev. Louis Joseph Derbes CM of Perryville, MO died May 16, 2010 at Apostle of Charity Residence on the campus of St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville, MO. He was 86. He was born in New Orleans, LA on January 21, 1924 son of the late Charles J. and Carmen Marie Louise (Antonini) Derbes.
Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Thorpe of Pinhurst, NC, Beverly Landrieu of Metairie, LA and two brothers Charles J. Derbes Jr. of Metairie, LA and Dr. Lawrence Derbes DDS of Metairie, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Rosemary Withers, Myrtle Walsh, Elisemary Walsh, Eleanor Bennison, Carmen Derbes and two brothers, John and J. Roy Derbes.
Rev. Derbes was a member of the Congregation of the Mission. He professed Vows at the St. Mary's of the Barrens on May 31, 1945. He was ordained a Priest at St. Marys of the Barrens on May 20, 1951. He served St. Francis in Bethany, OK from 1951-1955; St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Perryville, MO from 1955-1960; DePaul Academy in Chicago, IL from 1960-1962; St. John's Seminary in San Antonio, TX from 1962-1966; Regina Cleri Seminary in Tucson, AZ from 1966-1975; St. Vincent College in Cape Girardeau from 1975-1979; St. Louis Prep Seminary in St. Louis, MO from 1979-1982; DePaul Vincentian Residence in Chicago, IL from 1982-1989; and St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville, MO from 1989 to present.
Visitation will be held at Mary Mother of God Chapel at the Apostle of Charity Residence on the campus of St. Mary's of the Barrens on Tuesday, May 18th from 5:00 pm until after Prayer service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, May 19 from 9:00 am until time of Mass at 10:30 am with Rev. Mark S. Pranaitis CM officiating. Burial will be in the Vincentian Community Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Congregation of the Mission. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
