Birth: 20 OCT 1833 in Coles County, Illinois
Death: 3 APR 1911 in Coffey County, Kansas
Burial: Veteto Cemetery, Coffey County, Kansas
Event: Titles Rev.
Event: Other Names Jacob Crothers Note:
In an old book of Jacob's, he signed his last name both Carothers and Crothers.

He was a "pioneer" preacher and farmer.

From my mother's notes: "in 1856, three families, the Crothers, Vetetos and Woosters, came to Kansas in a covered wagon." Jacob's obituary: they went to Kansas in May 1857. In Cutler's History of Kansas, it says that John Wooster went to Kansas in 1856. Also, according to obituaries, J M Wooster went to Kansas in 1856 and the Vetetos in 1855. If the obituaries are correct they came at different times.

1885 Kansas census - Coffey County - Spring Creek Twp: Jacob's occupation was listed as Farmer & Minister; no military record listed. The Agricultural census showed 400 fenced acres, valued at $4000, 5 horses, 30 milk cows, 47 other cattle, 30 swine, apple and cherry trees and bees. Neighbors were Mickens (daughter Martha married William Mickens) and Snodgrass, of whom daughter Sarah married William.

1905 Kansas census - Coffey County - Spring Creek Twp: The Agricultural census showed 280 acres and that he had a mortgage. He may have given land to his married daughters: Mary Demiah Ward, Sarah Ida Snodgrass and Martha E Mickens were all close neighbors.

A small news item from the April 11, 1902 Burlington Republican mentioned that Jacob was preaching at the Plank school house in Spring Creek Twp.
