She retired from the family business at A.K. Durnin Chrysler Plymouth. She was 87, a native of Jarreau and a resident of Baton Rouge. She died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Fidelis Resident Care. Visitation at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 11 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m., with the Rev. Jerry Martin, celebrant. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She is survived by three sons, Douglas Durnin and his wife Cathy, Jerry Durnin and his wife Cynthia, and Terry Durnin and his wife Janice; sister, Winnie Olinde Aguillard; five grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Diana, Leslie and Ashley; and two great-grandchildren, Carys and Hayden. Preceded in death by her husband, A.K. Durnin; parents, Vileor and Josephine Olinde; and six brothers and four sisters, Noah Olinde, Jessie Olinde, Numa Olinde, Ida Olinde LaCoste, Matilde Olinde Gremillion, Edwin Olinde, Mable Olinde Alford, Lillian Olinde Gremillion Bergeron, George Tanner Olinde and Frank Leroy Olinde.
Edith Durnin graduated from Poydras High School, New Roads, and Baton Rouge Business College, Baton Rouge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
