Morris George Hemelt, Sr., a retired delivery truck driver for The Times-Picayune, died Sunday of a heart attack at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 82. Mr. Hemelt was born in New Orleans and lived in Chalmette for the past 38 years. He was a former carpenter/supervisor with the International Longshoremen's Association. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Cornu Hemelt; five sons, Morris Hemelt, Jr. and David, Milton, Gary and Randy Hemelt; a daughter, Suzanne H. Austin: 13 grandchildren: and six great-grand-children. A prayer service will be held today at 10:15 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
