Married at the turn of the century
This photo of Santo and Meline Bazile on their wedding day, December 22, 1900, had been forgotten for many years, and was rediscovered packed away in a box about 3 years ago by family members. Santa, a native of Italy, met Meline St. Cyr in Whitehall, married and settled near Springfield, and raised 3 sons and 6 daughters. Their children and their spouses are Tony and Eveline Fontenot Bazile of Whitehall, Joe and Louise Leader Bazile of Maurepas, and Norman and Mabel Bazile Gill, Albany. Their other children that settled in the Springfield area are Freddie and Maude Rushing Bazile, Taft and Louise Bazile Richardson, Ellsworth and Josephine Bazile Richardson, Melvin and Mary Bazile Richardson, Scott and Hazel Bazile Rushing. and Marion and Elizabeth Bazile St. Cyr. Santo died in 1930, and Meline lived until 1960. The Bazile descendants are having a family reunion at the home of Freddie and Maude Bazile, which is the old homestead place, on Fayard Road near Springfield. All relatives are invited, and everyone is asked to bring family photographs, a covered dish, drinks, and lawn chairs. For more information, call Janice Landry at 294-2854.
