Eight Times-Picayune N. O. States Carriers Get Training Diploma
Eight carriers for the Times-Picayune New Orleans States were graduated from the business training course, sponsored by the newspapers, in a ceremony Tuesday in the studios of radio station WTPS.
Certificates of completion studies were awarded to Hiram R. Torres, Benjamin T. Kikuchi, William P. Warren, Elmer J. Holley, Ernest J. Miranne, Jr., Joseph J. Johnson, Morris J. Ohlmeyer, Jr., and Harrison A. Boudreaux.
Donald W. Coleman, circulation manager and a vice-president of The Times-Picayune Publishing Company, said the graduates have "accomplished a great deal while they continued on their routes while going to school, and did a good job in both.
"The gratifying thing about it all," he added, "is that in 99 per cent of the cases business training course graduates are far above the average. It takes more than an ordinary young man to deliver, collect and canvass a route and do a successful job in the business training course while at the same time passing up many hours of fun and entertainment in order to further their education."
Holley, honor graduate of the class, said he and other students "learned that the qualities most important for success are honesty, enthusiam and the will to work."
Joseph J. Fracchia, director of the course, said "the boys have worked hard and have successfully completed the course and I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to each of them for their continued success."
Other speakers were W. C. Cambre, city circulation manager of the Times-Picayune, and A. J. Nissen, city circulation manager of the New Orleans States.

Mr. Ben T. Kikuchi, age 81 years, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011. Mr. Kikuchi was the son of the late John and Isako Kikuchi. Brother of William Kikuchi, the late Paul, Ernie, Arthur and Kay Kikuchi. Brother-in-law of Bobbie and Sukie Kikuchi and the late Theresa and Margaret Kikuchi. Devoted uncle of Sukie Chappuis, Debra Banquer, Edie Albernathy, Rosanna Stieffel, Nikki Ventura, Christine Abadie, Cliff Kikuchi, Michael Kikuchi, Anna Kikuchi, Ramona Arceneaux and Brenda Kikuchi. Mr. Kikuchi is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
