Miss Shirley M. Jenkins of Springfield was elected secretary of the Washington Parish Education Association at the semi-annual meeting held at Franklinton High school Friday afternoon.
Approximately one hundred teachers attended the meeting. The principal speaker was H. B. Hackett, executive secretary of the LEA, who discussed the LEA legislative program.
Miss Jenkins, a commerce teacher at Enon High school, is a graduate of Ponchatoula High school and Southeastern Louisiana College.

STONECYPHER, SHIRLEY JENKINS
A retired teacher with St. Tammany Parish school system with 22 years of service, she died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington. She was a resident of Covington for the past 42 years and a native of Springfield. Visiting at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S. Tyler St., Covington, 10 a.m. until religious services at noon Tuesday. Interment in Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula.

Survived by husband, Homer J. "Stoney" Stonecypher; parents, Beatrice and Curtis Lilly, Hammond; two sons, Craig and David Stonecypher; two grandchildren, Devin and Christopher Stonecypher; two daughters-in-law, Lindy Stonecypher and Jawnee Brooks; and a brother, Aubrey Jenkins. Preceded in death by father, Ellis Roy Jenkins. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Covington and active in the community.

Shirley Jenkins Stonecypher, a retired St. Tammany Parish schoolteacher, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 66. Mrs. Stonecypher was born in Springfield and lived in Covington for the past 42 years. She was a teacher in the St. Tammany school system for 22 years, including many years at Covington High School. She also taught at Enon High School in Washington Parish. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Covington. Survivors include her husband, Homer J. "Stoney" Stonecypher; two sons, Craig and David Stonecypher; her parents, Beatrice and Curtis Lilly of Hammond; a brother, Aubrey Jenkins; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Tuesday at Schoen Funeral Home of Covington. Burial was in Ponchatoula Cemetery.
