Birth: Feb. 4, 1834
Death: Aug. 30, 1904 Cherokee, Cherokee County, Iowa, USA

Rev. David J. Howe, who at times has filled the pulpit of the Christian Church of this city, died very suddenly, 1904, at about one o'clock of heart failure. He was born Feb. 4, 1834. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa.

Mr. Howe was in apparent good health and was on our streets the evening previous to his death. He and his wife lived with his daughter, Mrs. Aaron Smith, and Tuesday evening the couple retired as usual. About one o'clock Mrs. Howe was awakened by a groan from her husband. She called the other members of the family quickly, but Mr. Howe only gasped a few times after they reached the bedside and passed away. He was the Great Grandfather of Annette Blake.

In early manhood he entered the ministry of the Christian church and was actively engaged in the ministry of that church for 40 years, retiring only last May at which time he and his wife came to live at the home of their daughter, Mrs. A.C. Smith, of this city. His last charge was at Schuyler, Neb. and at times, the church being without a pastor, has officiated in the Christian church in this city.

He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his demise. The children are Mrs. William Miller; Corey; Col. Milo Beecher Howe, Lake City, IA.; Warren Howe, Sioux Falls, S.F.; and Mrs. A. C. Smith, this city, all of whom are here to attend the funeral, except Mrs. Miller and it is feared she will be unable to arrive in time to attend the funeral which will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. from the Christian church in Cherokee, Iowa.

Rev. W. B. Drewdson, of Atlantic, IA., will conduct the services.
