MILFORD: Walter M. Hayes, 68, formerly of Newtown, died Tuesday in Florida, where he lived on RFD 1, Havana, Fla.
He was mayor of Newtown from 1955 through 1961.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Monroe-Copher-Noakes Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Hattie; three daughters, Mrs. Wilbert Broerman, Mrs. Daniel Buie, and Mrs. Cornelius Moermond; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Perry, and one brother, Martin Hayes.. There are five grandchildren.

Services for Walter M. Hayes, 68, former mayor of Newtown, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Copher-
Noakes Funeral Home, 740 Center Street, Milford.
Mr. Hayes, died Tuesday in Tallahassee, Fla, where he had lived: for two and a half years.
He served as mayor of Newtown from .1955 to 1961. Mr. Hayes. was a residential building contractor in the Newtown area for many years. -
He leaves his wife, Hattie; three daughters, Mrs. Norma Broerman, Mrs. Frances Buie, and Mrs. Lois Moermound; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Perry; a brother, Martin Hayes, and five grandchildren.
