The American Bankstons trace their origin to the 14th century
in Sweden. They were from the old province Smaland-divided into two
land districts, Troneberg and Kalmara. In 1397 by the union of Kalmar,
Queen Margaret of Denmark and Norway united Sweden with the other
Scandinavian countries under one rule. The Swedes in 1523 drew away
from the union and elected Gustiavious Vasa, National Hero King of
Sweden. During the reign of this great soverign, the reformation
spread to Sweden and Lutheranism was made the state religion. Sweden
became a great power under Gustiavious Adolphies (1611-1632).

According to Amandus Johnson's list of Bankstons (spelled
Bengtsson) that came to the new Sweden, Peter Bengtsson (1643-1645)
the 6th expedition- cash and goods furnished to Flemming's account
by Peter Bengtsson. The 9th expedition-1649- Andrew Bengtsson in 1656
arrived in Delaware on the Swedish ship "Mercurious" He was 16 years
old. He held almost every position in the colony of honor and im-
portance and was many years in the Pennsylvania Assembly. Andrew
Bengtsson (1640-1706)-born in Sweden-died in Philadelphia,Pa. married
Gertrude Rambo-born (10-19-1650 Phildelphia, Penn.,married Andrew
Nov.22,1668 in Phildelphia, Penn. Their children were Benjamin, Andrew,
Peter, Catherine, John, Jacob, Bretton, Daniel, and Joseph.

Andrew Bankston Jr. married ??? Their children were Andrew 3rd,
Elizebeth, Peter, John, David, and Lawerence. He was active in the
affairs of the colony and was commissioned Justice of the Peace and
served in other positions as well. -..\emdash -!-

Lawrence Bankston born in Phildelphia, Pa., died in N. Carolina
in 1774. He married Rebecca Hendricks about 1726.

Jacob Bankston (son of Andrew and Rebecca Bankston) born in
Phildelphia, Pa. about 1731 died in Clark County, Georgia about 1817,
married to Eleanor Cock (Cox) in 1753. About 1758 he and his family
moved to North Carolina where his father, Lawerence, had previously
moved about 1744. They lived in North Carolina just before the
Revolutionary War, then moved to Wilkes County, Ga. where he en-
listed in the Georgia Continental Battalion and was in service
until the end of the war. He lived the rest of his life in Ga.,
but left a long line of decendents in Pennsylvania, Georgia and
Louisiana. The Georgia Bankstons were active in the war of 1812,
participating in the "Battle Of New Orleans", La.

\emdash John Bankston Sr, son of Jacob Bankston and Elinor Cox
Bankston, was born in Pa. in i754 and died in Washington Parish,
Louisiana in 1823. He was married to Heneretta Coates about 1778.
He served in the revoltutionary war in Georgia. He was living in
St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana and served from that parish dur-
ing the war of 1812. Four of his sons enlisted from the state of
Georgia, and one son, Henry Bankston, was killed in the "Battle
Of New Orleans" and is buried at Fort Chalmette, New Orleans, La.
John Bankston Sr. was buried in Bankston-Williams-Depon cemetary
east of Bolivar, LA.

John Jacques Bankston, son of John Bankston Sr. and
Heneretta Coates Bankston, 'Born in Georgia, March 3, 1797 died in
Pikes County, Miss. He married in 1818 to Pheriby Carter and came
to Louisiana with his parents and settled in St. Tammany Parish
where he lived for several years. Some of his children were born
George Bankston, son of John Bankston, Jr and Lydia
Bankston, was born in 1844 and married to Anna Thompson, They had one
son, George Jr, born in 1863. He married Emily Hutchinson
and their children were Ollie, Elizebeth, Edith, and Martin.

Ollie Bankston, born in 1889 and died March 30,1932.
She married Edward Abraham Foster, born in 1886 died in 1942.
They had nine children:

had one son, Paul Jones.

Ellen_ born 1907 died 1945. Married John Robert
Williams and they had one son, John Randolph Williams.

Elmer_ born 1908 died 1972. Married Thelma Dixon and
they had two children, Betty Gay and Elmer Jr.

Cloyed Joseph___born 1911 died 1939. he never married.

Lucille_ born 1913 died 1998. Married Edward Bauerle.
They had four boys. Edward Jr.,James Robert, Jerry and Fredrick.

Leonard_ Born 1916 died 1993. Married Bertha Hutchinson.
They had five children, Cloyed, Vera Lou, Viola, Vernon, and
Harold.

Dorothy_ born 3-27-1921 died__. Married Leonard Leo
Schilling-June 30,1940.They had three children:

Carol Lynn Mary-born May 19, 1946 Married John Perrin and they
have one daughter, Connie.

Leonard Leo Jr.-born Feb.2, 1948 Married Kathleen McClure and they
had Steve, Laurie, and John. He married again to Susan Lorenz and
they have one son, Bradly.

Ann Marie-born March 24,1956. She married Selby Ray Woodward and
they have two children, Kimberly Ann and John Adam.

Iris Mae_ born Feb.3,1926 died____. Married Vernis Wolfe
and they have two sons, Duane and David.

Ella Louise born July 16, 1930. Married Harvey Westerland.
They did not have children.

Elizebeth Bankston married Edgar White and they had two
sons, Edgar Jr, and Charles. They live in Port Netches, Tx.

Edith Bankston married Sam Richardson, and they had eight
children, Lula Mae, MELVIN, Elizebeth, Orine, Cecil, Georgia,
Neville,and Edward.

Martin Bankston married Etta Mixon. They had four children,
Pauline, George Martin, Lucy, and Laura May.

Dorothy, daughter of Oilie and Edward Foster, married Kevlin
Coates, after the death of Leonard Schilling in 1981. They married
Feb.11, 1989.
