Pearl Hayes Swango
Pearl Hayes Swango, daughter of Bailey H. and Hester C. Hayes, was born near Elizabethtown July 29, 1880. Her entire life, with the exception of a few months, was spent in the neighborhood of her childhood home.
During her girlhood she was a very faithful member of the Sunday school and a regular attendant of the Epworth League and other services of the church.
As a child she was loving and dutiful both to her parents and teachers. As a neighbor, a mother, a wife, she was kind and faithful; always willing to help where her assistance was needed.
On May 2, 1904, she was united in marriage to Arthur Swango. To this union were born two sons, Theodore, now aged six years and Thornton, aged five.
She was aged thirty-one years and ten days.
She leaves a sorrowing husband, two little sons, a father and mother, four sisters, four brothers and a multitude of relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the M. E. church at Elizabethtown, conducted by Rev. F. S. Bordrey, who was assisted by Rev. C. E. Hester. The services were attended by a great number of friends who followed the remains to their last resting place in Greendale cemetery.

Death Due to Accident

Mrs. Pearl Hayes Swango, wife of Arthur Swango of Elizabethtown, was the victim of a fatal accident Monday, Aug. 7. She was preparing to go for a drive into the country for the purpose of obtaining fruit, and had just removed the halter from the horse, which was hitched to a buggy in the barn lot, when the animal suddenly sprang forward, catching her between a fore wheel of the buggy and a corner post of the barn. Two ribs were broken, one of which penetrated a lung, terrible lacerating it. The most skillful medical aid was procured and everything possible was done to bring about her recovery, but to no avail. She lingered until the evening of the following day, when she died. The obituary appears elsewhere in this issue of the Press.

It would help if you listed a time frame for Arthur Swango. I do have one Arthur Swango in my files. He was born in 1884 to Henry Clay Swango (1844-1927) & Martha Ellen Jackson (1847-1914). This Arthur married Pearl Hayes (1880-1911) who was killed in a buggy accident in Dearborn Co IN. They had five children but I have the names of only two...Theodore Swango b. ca. 1905 & Thornton Swango b. ca. 1906.
