Funeral services For Otho Hayes Monday
Death Comes At His Home Last Thursday Morning At the Age of 86 Years
Funeral services for Otho Hayes were held Monday morning at ten o'clock at the Fitch Bros. Funeral Home by Rev. H. M. Goetz, pastor of Zion Evangelical church. Burial was in the Greendale cemetery.
Mr. Hayes died at his home, corner High and Elm streets, at 8:30 p. m. Thursday, March 23, after a brief illness. He had always enjoyed good health until last fall when he had a serious sick spell and from it he never fully recovered. He was up and around after it but not as spry and active as usual.
Mr. Hayes was the son of Solomon and Mary Roden Hayes. He was born near Valley Junction, Aug. 29, 1853 and was 86 years of age. When a youth he came to Lawrenceburg, which was his home most of his life.
For a number of years he was superintendent of the WIlliam Brothers and Marsh Company of Cleveland, O., railroad contractors. Later he operated the Hayes Construction Co.
Mr. Hayes was twice married. His first wife was Rose Hartman, who died March 16, 1929.
His second wife was Barbara Schnetzer, whom he married nine years ago and who survives.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lawrenceburg Aerie. Services were held by the Eagles Sunday night at the funeral home.
Survivors besides his wife are a son, Henry Hayes, of Lawrenceburg and a granddaughter, Rose Mary Hayes, age 11 years. A son, Frank, died several years ago and a daughter, Mary, at the age of 17 years. Mr. Hayes was the last of his family.
