"Benjamin Hayes, son of Isaac and Sarah, married, 11, 16, 1826, Ann, daughter of Jacob and Jemima (Kay) Borton, born 7, 25, 1800. They sold the homestead several years ago and removed to West Chester, where they now reside. Their children were Mary B. (married William L. Bailey), Jacob Borton (married Hannah Thompson), Isaac Israel (unmarried), Edward (married Mary I. Ellis), Benjamin (died in infancy), and Anne J. Hayes.

Mary B. Bailey
Mrs. William L. Bailey, who lives at the northeast corner of Church and Fayette streets, was born on Brandywine farm, new Mortonville, Chester county, on August 25, 1828. Her father, Benjamin Hayes, lived into his 97th year. He was an elder in the Chestnut Street Friends' Meeting here, and lived a number of years and died at 106 South High street, West Chester. Her mother died in her 85th year. Dr. Isaac I. Hayes, the well-known explorer and author, was a younger brother.
As a young woman Mrs Bailey seemed to be delicate. She was always active and kept busy, but can scarcely have been said to have worked hard. She does not hear well, but sees very well, reads much and is well informed. She has always been cheerful, not given to unnecessary worry. She has drunk coffee all her life and still drinks it twice a day. She does not know why she has lived so long, but thinks it may be because she has always taken good care of herself.
