MISS AMERICA'S MOTHER IS DEAD
Last Rites for Mrs. Mead to take place in N. O.
Funeral services will be held in New Orleans Thursday for Mrs. Herbert W. Mead, mother of Lynda Lee Mead, Miss America of 1960.
Mrs. Mead died in her sleep early Wednesday at her home in Natchez, Miss. She was 46 years old.
A brief service was held in Natchez Wednesday afternoon at the Foster funeral home. The body was then sent to New Orleans where final rites will get under way Thursday at 10:30 a. m. at the House of Bultman. A Requiem Mass will follow at 11 a,. m. at the St. John the Baptist church. Interment will be in Metairie cemetery.
While flying South from Chicago, Mrs. Mead's famous daughter became weather bound. At last reports, she would come direct to New Orleans to attend final services here.
A native of New Orleans, Mrs. Mead is the former Magdalyn Hagen. Her husband is president of Bluff City Motors in Natchez where the family has resided since September 1945.
She was educated at Mater Dolorsa school and Wright High school in New Orleans.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Lynda Lee, Mrs. Mead is survived by a son, Herbert Mead Jr., a student at the University of Mississippi: four brothers, James Hagen, Ralph Hagen, G. Y. Hagen and Charles Hagen, all of New Orleans; and six sisters, Mrs. James Cole, Natchez, and Mesdames R. M. Crane, George Robbins, Louis Buillard, George Trussell and Bernard Kansas, all of New Orleans.
