Notes
General:
Per The Hayes Family
He attended the public school at Zion through the eight grades. He graduated from Hughes High School, Cincinnati, Ohio, and later studied at the University of Cincinnati. He chose teaching as his life's vocation. He taught several years in Hamilton County and then became assistant superintendant of the County Schools, which position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of the Cincinnati School Masters' Club and of the Pleasant Ridge Lodge No. 282 F. & A. M. He was a consistent Christian and member of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church. He was married to Mattie Danford. They had one son. His useful and successful career was cut short Oct. 12, 1918, when he died of pneumonia.

Per 1900 US Census: 6/19/1900, Miami Township, Hamilton County, Ohio
M. M. Hayes is the 58 year old white male head of household. Occupation is blank, but is likely a farmer, as (mistakenly?) entered on the line above for a 70 year old man. Born in January 1842, he has been married for 33 years to 54 year old Mary E. Hayes. Mary was born in June 1845, and has had 6 children, all still living. Two sons still live at home and attend school: 17 year old Frank Hayes, born March 1883; and 13 year old Chester, born August 1886. All family members were born in Ohio, as were their parents.
