Ed E. Hayes, 71, longtime Webster City resident, died Monday evening at the Hamilton County hospital. He
had been in ill health for several days.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron Surface officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. ,
The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the
church.
Edward Earl Hayes, son of Warren West and Martha Ellen Rutledge Hayes, was born Oct. 1, 1904 at
Hayworth, Ill. He later moved to Iowa with his family, locating in the Homer area, where he was reared and educated.
On Jan. 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Zella Williams Nash and the couple had always resided in the Webster City area where Mr. Hayes was engaged in farming and for one year being employed by the city in the light department.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter and one son, Mrs. Edgar (Jackie) Higgens of Webster City and
Merlyn Hayes of Webster City; one grandson, Brian Higgens; two brothers and four sisters, Lester
Hayes and Roy Hayes, both of Webster City, Mrs. Charity Simpson, Webster City, Mrs. Eunice Patterson
and Mrs. Floyd (Edna) Patterson, both of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Myrtle Gallamore of Galesburg, Ill., and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Keith in 1962; by his parents; one brother and one sister.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist church in Webster City.
