DANIEL M. GUARD, PIONEER RESIDENT OF COUNTY, DEAD
Daniel M. Guard, the son of Timothy and Rebecca Hayes Guard, was born on the 24th day of June, 1840,
and passed away from this earth on Saturday, November 28, 1925, aged 85. years, 5 months and 4 days. His parents were both members of old pioneer families. The father's family emigrated from.New Jersey to
North Bend, 0., in the spring of 1790. His forbears were active participants in the war of the Revolution and at its close risked the dangers of the Ohio Valley to assist in opening this vast western domain for settlement.
Daniel Guard's place of birth was scarcely a mile from the place of his death and at the time of his going he was the oldest Guard of the name living. In his earlier life he was active with his father in the business affairs of the community and was well known the county over. Dearborn county honored him by electing him to the office of sheriff twice and Lawrenceburg township elected him for four years to the office of Township Trustee, and also to the office of Township assessor for two terms. These places of responsibility and trust he filled with credit to himself and to his constituents. Following these places of honor he lived a retired life at the home of his son, Hiram.
Mr. Guard was twice married. His first wife was Ruth Miller, by whom he had one daughter, afterwards the
wife of Jacob Miller, and now deceased. His second wife was Eliza H. Miller, by whom he had five children, two of whom are now living, Hiram Guard of this city and Enoch Guard of Homestead. Besides his immediate family he also has seven grandchildren.
Mr. Guard in early life united with the Methodist church at Homestead and was a member at one time of the Uniformed Ranks, Odd Fellows.
Funeral services were held at Fitch Bros. Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C. D. Wilson of Hamline
Chapel M. E. church officiating. Burial in Greendale cemetery. .
