Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Smith of Waycross, Ga., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Virginia Ruth Smith to Mr. Werner John Hagen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Louis Hagen of New Orleans. The wedding will be celebrated early in June.
Miss Smith, whose mother is the former Miss Maude Ruth Cooper, is a graduate of the Charity hospital school of nursing.
Mr. Hagen attended Loyola university and will graduate in June From Louisiana State university school of medicine. His mother was before her marriage Miss Louise Bourgeois of this city.

Miss Virginia Ruth Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Smith of Waycross, Ga., became the bride Tuesday of Dr. Werner John Hagen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Louis Hagen of this city. The marriage was celebrated at 11 o'clock in the morning in the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus on St. Charles ave. The Rev. William H. Mulherin, S. J., performed the ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Benjamin C. Smith, Jr., of Waycross. Her gown was of white satin fashioned with an off-the-shoulder neckline filled in with a yoke of illusion outlined by seed pearls. The sleeves were long. The full skirt, which had an overskirt of Chantilly lace, ended in a train. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and orchids.
Matron-of-honor was Mrs. Erwin J. Vega, sister of the bridegroom. The bridesmaid was Miss Patricia Ann Hagen, another sister of the bridegroom. They wore gowns of white taffeta made with an off-the-shoulder neckline in a scalloped bertha effect. The skirts were bouffant. Their bouquets were cascade of red Delight roses and they wore a cluster of the similar flowers in their hair.
Mr. James Louis J Hagen Jr. was his brother's best man. Groomsman was Dr. Morton Brown of this city. Ushers were Messrs. Rene M. Crane Jr. and R. Richard Hagen Jr., cousins of the bridegroom.
A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bridegroom's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Rene M. Crane, on Napoleon ave. Mrs. Smith chose for her daughter's wedding a beige lace dress with a lavender hat and beige accessories. She wore a champagne colored linen dress trimmed with rhinestones. She wore a white hat of starched lace and white accessories. Both wore corsage bouquets of orchids.
Later in the day, the couple left on a wedding trip. The bride chose for traveling a navy blue suit trimmed in rhinestones. The sleeves were three-quarter length. She wore a white straw hat and red accessories. Her corsage bouquet was of white orchids.

FAMILY UNHURT AS CAR OVERTURNS
Dr. Werner J. Hagen, 2218 Gen. Pershing, his wife and eight-month-old baby escaped injury about 5:40 a. m. Wednesday when the car in which they were riding went out of control and turned over on its side on the Chef Menteur hwy. near Downman road.
Dr. Hagen told members of the accident investigations squad that he temporarily lost control of the vehicle when the left front tire blew out.
Police said the car skidded 213 feet, struck a traffic sign, and turned over on its side.
