William Joseph Hagstette Sr., a retired owner of Barnett Optical Co., died Tuesday at his home. He was 89. Mr. Hagstette was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was past president of the Louisiana Association of Dispensing Opticians, a member of the Guild of Prescription Opticians of America and a charter member of the Suburban Gun and Rod Club of Pointe a la Hache. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Was Hagstette ; two sons, Stephen E. and William J. Hagstette Jr.; three daughters, Wilda Martinez, Esther Jordan, and Elizabeth Walker; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A wake will be held today at 7 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Inc., 3827 Canal St. A funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a service at St. John Lutheran Church, 3937 Canal St. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
