Per death certificate, he lived his last 25 years in New Orleans, and was a native of New York. Occupation Clerk.

Per 4/19/1878 Obituary in the Times-Picayune
ASMUS -- On Thursday, April 18, 1878, in the 33rd year of his age, CHARLES H. ASMUS, a native of this city.

The funeral will take place from his late residence on Camp street, between Peniston and Gen. Taylor streets, This evening at 4 o'clock. The friends of the family are respectively invited to attend.

HEADQUARTERS CO. F, 1st regiment Infantry, L. N. G., New Orleans, April 18,1878.
I. The officers and members of this company are hereby ordered to assemble at their armory in full uniform on Friday, the 19th inst. at 2 o'clock, P. M., to escort to their last resting place the remains of CHARLES H. ASMUS, late Sergeant of this company.
II. The officers and members of the regiment are respectfully invited to attend.
