YOUNG MAN DROWNED AT PEARL RIVER
Word has just reached the city of the drowning of Frederick Guerin, aged 19, who lived at 609 St. Ferdinand street. The young man fell into the Pearl river while at work with a bridge gang of the N. O. & N. E. railroad, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. The body was not recovered.
The members of the bridge gang did not see when Guerin fell overboard. A negro fireman on a locomotive saw the form of the unfortunate young man when it shot downward to a watery grave.
However, the workmen on the bridge saw the body in the water only when it came up for the last time. It was too late; young Guerin disappeared from view before assistance could reach him.
Exactly what caused Guerin to fall overboard is not known, but it is believed that in leaning over he lost his balance.
Young Guerin was well known in the Third District, where he lived nearly all his life. He was one of ten children, six brothers and three sisters surviving him, nearly all of whom live with their parents in St. Ferdinand street.
