Gretchen Guard Dies In Hospital
Funeral services fer Miss Gretchen Guard, 57, who died Sunday, June 19 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, following a long illness, were conducted Wednesday morning 'at 10 a.m. in the Fitch Bros. funeral home.
Rev. Arthur Jean, retired Methodist minister; officiated at the service and burial was in the family lot in Greendale cemetery.
Miss Guard was born July 26, 1891 in Lawrenceburg, a daughter of Hiram and Catherine Homberger Guard. She was graduated from Oldenburg Academy.
Miss Guard, who conducted the Hornberger Jewelry Store on 11 West High street, since the death of her mother, Mrs. Guard on June 21, 1944, was a widely known and successful business woman.
Survivors include an uncle, ' Enoch Guard and three cousins, Clay Wingate of Covin ton, Ky., and Earl and Chester Guard.

Rites Held For Gretchen Guard
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning for Miss Gretchen Guard, 57, who died Sunday at
Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, after an illness of several weeks. She had operated the Hornberger Jewelry Store on West High Street, a business established in 1865 by her grandfather.
Miss Guard had closed the store for a time last year, due to illness, put recovered to be open for the
holiday season, later closing the store to enter the hospital.
An uncle, Enoch Guard,.of Lawrenceburg, is the only close .survivor. She was a cousin of Chester
E..Guard, Dearborn County clerk.
Rites were held in the Fitch Brothers funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial taking place in Greendale Cemetery.
