Mrs. Newell Timmons, R. 5, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of her sister, Edna Ruth Guard, Coral Gables. Fla., to Melvin P. Reed, son of Rev. and Mrs. Ulysses P. Reid, Lake Worth, Fla. The wedding will take place Dec. 22 in the Methodist church at Lake Worth.

Melvin Prince Reid and his bride of Dec. 22, the former Miss. Edna Ruth Guard, are at home at 6601 SW 44th st.
They were married in Calvary Methodist Church, Lake Worth, with the bridegroom's father, the Rev. U. E. Reid, Lantana, and the Rev. Don A. Cook officiating.
The bride, given in marriage by her brother-in-law Newell Timmons, wore white satin with chantilly lace accents. The full hoop skirt fell into a long train. The veil was attached to a pillbox with orange blossom trim. She carried white calla lilies.
Miss Dorothy Phillips, Lafayette, Ind., was maid of honor. Miss Ellen Lenihan, Miss Eileen Stockment and Miss Margaret Ridenour were bridesmaids.
Alfred Reid was best man for his brother. Ushers were John Hoffman, James Harrison and Cliff Ripley.
The bride is a graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Lafayette, Ind. She is on the nursing staff of Coral Gables Veteran Administrative Hospital.
Mr. Reid was graduated from Lake Worth High School land the University of Miami. He is now enrolled in the graduate school. He is a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta and Psi Chi.

LAKE WORTH \'97- Marriage of Miss Edna Ruth Guard to Melvin Prince Reid was solemnized Thursday at 6:30 pm in Calvary Methodist Church.
Officiating at the single ring ceremony were the Rev. U. E. Reid, Lantana, father of the bride-groom, assisted by the Rev. Don A. Cook, pastor of Calvary Church.
The Ceremony took place beneath an arch of white gladioli, white roses and pompon mums. in the background were eureka palms, ferns and baskets of white gladioli and chrysanthemums. On both sides of the arch were four
Swedish steel candelabra with tall white tapers lighted for the candle light ceremony.
Miss Christine Carle. accompanied by Mrs. Ethel Carle at the organ, sang "At Dawning" and "Because". Mrs. Carle presented a program of nuptial music preceding the ceremony and played traditional wedding marches.
The bride, given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Newell Timmons, was attractively attired in a white slipper satin gown, trimmed with a white chantilly lace bertha and a yoke of marquisette. At the sleeves and down the back of the
yoke were tiny self-covered buttons. The long sleeves had chantilly lace inserts at the wrists. The full hoop skirt of the bridal gown ended in a long train. Her finger-tip veil was attached to a pill box hat with a crown of orange blossoms. The bride carried a bouquet of white calla lillies trimmed with white satin ribbons.
The maid of honor and bridesmaids wore gowns fashioned alike of slipper satin with matching pill box hats and gauntlets. Their gowns had off the shoulder shirred berthas and full hoop skirts gathered with a bow at the front hem.
The maid of honor, Miss Dorothy Phillips, Lafayette, Ind., wore a yellow gown and carried an arm bouquet of mixed garden flowers in pastel shades. Bridesmaids carried nosegays of mixed pastel garden flowers, trimmed with multi-flora satin streamers.
Miss Ellen Lenihan, Akron, Ohio. and Miss Eileen Stockment, Chalmers. lnd., wore orchid colored gowns, while Miss Margaret Ridenour, Scottsburg, Ind., was gowned in nile green.
Alfred Reid, the bridegroom's brother, was best man, while John Hoffman, James Harrison and Cliff Ripley were ushers.
Mrs. Newell Timmons, the bride's sister, wore a dusty rose suit and hat, with brown accessories and a white rose corsage.
Mrs. Reid. the groom's mother, chose a black crepe and faile dress with black accessories and a white rose corsage.
Presiding at the bride's book was Miss Phyllis Reindel.
Following the ceremony. a reception was held at Seminole Inn which was highlighted by the cutting of the three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom. Assisting at the refreshment table were Mrs. E. B.
Reed, Mrs. Lillian Galloway, Mrs. Faye Greer, Mrs. C. E. Small and Mrs. Alfred S. Reid. On the refreshment table was a point Venetian lace table cloth. Floral trimmings at the table included white pompon mums and carnations.
The new Mrs. Reid is a graduate of Chalmers High School, Chalmers, Ind. and the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in lndiana. She is now a member of the nursing staff at Veterans Hospital, Coral Gables.
Mr. Reid was graduated from Lake Worth High School, where he was president of the student body during his senior year. He received his Bachelor of Science degree. from the University of Miami this past August, and is now
enrolled in the graduate school here majoring in psychology. He is a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, honorary pre-medical fraternity, and Pi Kappa Alpha, social fraternity.
After a honeymoon in Havana, Cuba, Mr. and Mrs. Reid will reside at 6601 SW 44th St., Miami.
