Death of Bailey Guard
10 June 1869 , Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana
Death of Bailey Guard "The Register Press" June 10,1869
This venerable old man departed this life, at his residence near Sugar Grove Church, in this county, on Sunday last. The funeral sermon was preached at Belleview church, on Tuesday by Rev. Benjamin Plummer; and Rev. B. W. Childlaw, at the request of the family, delivered an address on the life and character of the venerated dead. In 1790 Alexander Guard, of Elizabethtown, New Jersey, with his wife and five children, left Red Stone, Pennsylvania, descended the Monongahela and the Ohio, and landed, on the 4th of April, at North Bend. Bailey Guard was one of these children. He was 82 years of age at the time of his death, and had lived 79 years in Hamilton County, Ohio, and Dearborn County, Indiana. He had been a member of the Methodist church for over forty years. As a Christian and man his character was noble and consistent. We had hoped to obtain a suitable notice of the life and character of the deceased for publication this week, but have not received it. Rev. B.W. Childlaw has promised to prepare and send us such a notice. Brother Childlaw will, on the 3rd of July, at the Pioneer meeting to be held at Hunt's Grove, read a paper on the early life of Bailey Guard, which will no doubt be very interesting. A large concourse of people assembled on the funeral occasion to pay their last tribute to the deceased. He was buried at Greendale Cemetery.
