John J. Grunniger
John J. Grunninger, 93, of Stow, passed in peace July 16, 2009 at Hospice Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa (Leimeister) Grunninger; brothers, Joseph
and George; sisters, Catherine Charnok and Mary Kenneley; nephew, David Grunninger; and his beloved golden retriever, Bruce.
John was a World War II veteran, and served with the Army 3rd Infantry Division Ordinance Co. He served in Africa, Sicily, Italy and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and his company received
the President's Citation of Honor. After the war, he was employed at RH Freitag Tool & Dye where he worked on the landing gear steering mechanism for the B52 Bomber. He then worked for Babcox & Wil-
cox where he was a quality assurance vendor surveillance field representative. John had FBI and DOD clearance. He worked on supplying the US. Navy with its reactors on the Nautilus submarine.
John leaves behind his wife, Jeanne (Gwaltney) of 62 years; brother, Stephen of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Theresa of Glendale, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Center, 3558 Ridgewood Rd, Akron, OH 44333, or AMVETS National Services Foundation, 4647 Forbes Blvd, Lanham, MD, 20706. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, on Monday, July 20, 2009, at St. Martha's, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave, Akron. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, with Firestone VFW Post 3383 performing military honors. Family will receive friends at the church, for one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Grunninger spent three years in the European theater of war. They will reside in Akron.
