Raymond E. Groves, 91, of New Castle died Monday afternoon at his home following an extended illness.

He was born January 8th, 1917 and was the son of the late Willie and Elsie (Brown) Groves.

He was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1935 and was a Veteran with the United States Army Air Force serving in WWII. He was a retired Henry County Farmer and drove a school bus for forty years in Liberty Township. Raymond loved animals and maintained a wildlife sanctuary on his farm and enjoyed giving tours to school children on field trips. He was an avid wild life supporter.

He is survived by two sons, William "Bill" (wife -Sandra) Groves of Marion, IN. and David Groves of New Castle; three grandchildren, Paul "Eric" (wife - Kris) Groves of Goshen, Ryan L. (wife - Michelle) Groves of New Palestine, IN., and Jessica (husband - Tim) Lawson of Danville, KY.; eight great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clair Belle Groves on September 25th, 2007; one son, Allan Lewis Groves; one grandson, Jake Groves in February of 2007; two brothers and one sister.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 28th, 2008 at Main and Davis Funeral Home Broad Street Chapel in New Castle with Chaplin Wanda Byrd officiating. A Military Honor Guard Service will be conducted by the New Castle American Legion Post #137 and the VFW Post1282 immediately before the funeral service. Burial will follow in Hillgrove Cemetery in Hillsboro, IN. Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Humane Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
