Here is some more information I had also written down while in Salem, IL, I but didn't mention it to you because I've never found any verification of it's authenticity. You might want to keep it separate (as a possibility) but sort of "unproven" for now.

Emily Green's mother's name was Anah and I have handwritten (from when I was in Salem) that John and Emily Gain's FIRST child was "Ana R. Gain, b. 6 Feb 1831; m. Dec 1858 in Marion Co, IL to Asabel Strumbull (sp?). Because of the initials A. R., I wondered if it could have been Rebecca, b. abt 1839. (and I'm not absolutely sure that Rebecca's first name is Ana.??) That info just doesn't "fit" . . . unless it was referring to Ana R(ebecca), who could have married in Dec. 1858 in Marion Co, IL. since she would have been about 19 yrs old at the time. (and before the 1860 census) John and Emily would have been Very young to have borne a child in 1831. If I ever go back to Salem to do research I will search for a marriage record for Rebecca. I found the one for my gr-grandmother Ariandne Permelia and W.H. Morris while there. I don't know if you have a marriage date for John & Emily, but again, handwritten, I have: m. 13 Jan 1836 in Green Co, Ohio.
The other bit of info I have written is: another son, born to John & Emily, Thomas I. Gain, b. 24 June 1843. And, a daughter, Mary Gain, b. 4 Nov 1844. I have noted "Oral History" beside those listings. Because of the space between John H.F. Gain's birth (1941) and Joel Harvey Gain's birth (1847), it is very possible there were two more children born who may not have lived long. Not sure if there would be any records to 'prove' this.

While looking through my genealogy charts this afternoon I noticed that Emily Green's parents had eight children, and two of Emily's sisters were named Ariande and Permelia.
