INDEPENDENCE - Miss Frances Marie Messina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Messina, became the bride of Mr. Paul Wade Durnin, son of Mrs. Ray E. Durnin of Amite, on Oct. 31 at Mater Delorosa Catholic Church. Officiating was the Rev. William Aldredge. Nuptial music was provided by Miss Felice Anzalone, organist and Mr. Carlo Giacone, soloist.
Escorted by her father the bride wore a gown of white peau de soie highlighted by motifs of beaded peau d'ange lace. Featured were a beaded sunburst yoke and bishop sleeves and a chapel-length train bordered with matching lace. She wore a chapel-length mantilla edged with matching lace and carried a white orchid surrounded by stephanotis.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Gordon Anderson and bridesmaids were Mrs. Gary Clark, Miss Holly Simmons, Mrs. Frank Author Anzalone, Mrs. Andrew A. Messina, Miss Jo Ann Co stanza and Mrs. Klaus Durnin. Flower girls were Lynn Anzalone, Angela Clark, Kim Anzalone and Lisa Durnin. The attendants wore gowns of orange silk styled with long sleeves and a panel of venise lace. Matching bows formed their headpieces.
Best man was Mr. John Durnin and groomsmen were Messrs. Dan Anzalone, Andrew Messina, Joe Messina, Raymond Durnin, Bruce McCleod, Barry Vutera, and Johnny Lavigne. Ushering were Messrs. Joe Costa, Sal Misita, Norman Durnin and Tommy Dupepe. Ring bearer was Charles Macalusa.
A reception was held in the American Legion Hall.
The bride was graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University and the bridegroom from Northeast State University in Monroe.

Paul Wade Durnin Sr., of Independence, Louisiana, passed away at Richard Murphy Hospice House on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on May 8, 1946, in Amite, Louisiana, the son of the late Ray E. Durnin and Laura Strong Durnin. Paul was the owner and pharmacist at Paul's Pharmacy since 1976. He had a passion for his work and was an inspiration and mentor to many pharmacists along the way. Away from work, Paul enjoyed LSU football and basketball games. He loved spending time with his family and doting on his granddaughters. Paul will always be remembered as an extraordinary man with a loving and easy going manner.
Paul is survived by his wife, Frances Messina Durnin; son, Paul Durnin Jr. and wife Amy; daughter, Mary Durnin; granddaughters, Madeleine Durnin, Katherine Abdalla, Caroline Durnin, and Isabella Abdalla; brother, John Durnin and wife Carol; sister, Lisa Durnin; brother-in-law, Joe Messina and wife Ronnette; sister-in-law, Bette Messina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Durnin; sister-in-law, Klaudia Durnin; mother and father-in-law, Josephine "MaPhine" and Sam Messina; and brother-in-law, Andrew Messina.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Richard Murphy Hospice House for their compassionate care, as well as Sister Nicholas Schiro and Sister Evelyn Fournet for their friendship and prayers.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at Harry McKneely on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 620 3rd St. , Independence, Louisiana 70443 on Monday at 11:00 am, with Fr. Charlie Johnson officiating.
Entombment will follow at Colonial Cemetery Mausoleum in Independence, Louisiana.
