[photo] At the beautiful double wedding Tuesday morning at the Madeleine church, where two sisters married two brothers, these attractive girls, shown with their maids of honor, were brides: Left to right-Miss Esther Allen and Mrs. Alfred Charles Walsh (Myrtle Mary Derbes), whom she attended, and Mrs. Frank M. J. Walsh (Elisemary Derbes) and her attendant, Miss Eleanor Derbes.
2 Sisters Brides of Brothers
A double wedding engaged the attention of Portland society on Tuesday morning when Miss Elisemary Derbes and her sister, Miss Myrtle Mary Derbes. daughters of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Derbes, were brides at a large ceremony at Madeleine church. Miss Elisemary became the bride of Mr. Frank M. J. Walsh, and Miss Myrtle Mary became the bride of his brother, Mr. Alfred Charles Walsh. The two are sons of Mrs. M. J. Walsh and the late Mr. Walsh.
The interesting church service, attended by a throng of guests, was followed by a large reception at the Derbes' home in Klickitat street.
Father George Thompson read the church ceremony which was performed in a beautiful setting of autumn colors. The altar was flanked with bronze Chrysanthemums and Talisman roses against a darker background of palms. Organ music was played.
Miss Elisemary was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of old ivory satin, with long sleeves falling to a point over the wrist, V-shaped neck, and long train. Her illusion veil was bound to her hair with a Juliet cap of pearls. She carried lillies-of-the-valley and orchids.
Miss Myrtle Mary was given away by Mr. James L. Conley. She wore a gown similar in mode to her sister's, of old ivory satin, with very long train and a veil caught into a crushed tulle cap fastened at each side with tiny calla lilies. She carried a sheaf of calla lilies.
Miss Esther Allen was maid of honor for Elisemary and Miss Eleanor Derbes was maid of honor for her sister, Myrtle Mary. The maids of honor and the bridesmaids, Miss Virginia Walsh, Miss Amy Gard and Miss Thea Horgan, reflected the autumn colors of the bridal setting in their gowns which shaded from deep tints to lighter tones. Their frocks were of satin, in Empress style, and they wore hats to match, adorned with colored plumes. They all carried armfuls of Talisman roses and baby chrysanthemums. Miss Allen and Miss Derbes, the maids of honor, wore gowns of lighter tones and hats of deeper
shades, than the other attendants, and carried roses of a richer hue.
Mr. John Walsh was best man for Mr. Frank Walsh and Mr. Robert Walsh, was best man for Mr. Alfred Walsh. Ushers were Messrs. Francis O'Shea, Ralph Zimmerman and Arthur Prag.
Several young maids assisted at the table later at the reception. Here also,
autumn colors prevailed. Two brides cakes adorned the long table with its center piece of bride's roses and lilies-of-the-vailey. They were Misses Mary Lonergan, Barbara Comerford, Betty Jane Casey, Anne Chapman, Laura
Hagedorn, Mary Katherine Bennett, Patricia Cavanaugh, Pauline and Irene
Plover, Virginia Zeller and Irene Plover, Virginia Zeller, Helen McEntee, Nancy Jeffries, Kathleen Sheasgreen, Meta Horgan and several others.
Not only were the two couples married at the same ceremony, but they are spending their honeymoon together, and the four have motored north to British Columbia for a fortnight or so. On their return they will occupy apartments near each other at the Castle Manor.
