The family of Pfc. Norwood G. Durnin, 24, has just received word from the War department that he was killed In action in France on July 11, presumably during the eight-day siege on St. Lo.
Ten days before his death he had been awarded the Expert Infantryman's medal.
Pfc. Durnin attended Southeastern Louisiana college, Hammond, and was employed by one of the local plants prior to his induction into the Army on January 7, 1942. He has been in England since September, 1943.
He is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. D. S. Killan, Amite; his father, Robert C. Durnin, 744 Main street; two brothers, Robert E. (Ned). of the U. S. Army Air Corps, stationed at Gulfport Field, Miss., and Winston, of 3001 Seneca street, and a sister, Mrs. L. Calvert Morgan, 8021 Dayton drive, with whom he lived before going into
the Army.

Private First Class Norwood G. Durnin, son of Robert C. Durnin, 744 Main street, Baton Rouge, was killed in France on July 11. He had been awarded the Expert lnfantryman's Medal just 10 days before his death. Private Durnin attended Southeastern college in Hammond and was inducted into the army two and a half years ago.
The 24-year-old army man is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. D. S. Killian, Amite; two brothers, Robert E. Durnin, United States Army Air Corps, stationed at Gulfport Field, Miss, and Winston Durnin, 3001 Seneca street, Baton Rouge, and a sister, Mrs. L. Calvert Morgan, 3021 Dayton Drive, Baton Rouge, with whom he resided before going into the army.

Body of Veteran Killed in '44 Arrives Tuesday
The body of Norwood G. Durnin, son of Robert Cronan Durnin, will arrive in Baton Rouge by train at 6:50 a. m. next Tuesday.
The body will be at Rabenhorst funeral parlors until 3:15 p. m. that day and will be taken to Roselawn Memorial park for final burial at 3:30. Full military services will he held at the graveside.
Durnin is survived by his father, one sister, Mrs. L. Calvert Morgan; two brothers, Robert E. and Winston E. Durnin, all of Baton Rouge.
Durnin was killed in action on July 11, 1944, during the invasion of France and was buried in La Cambe cemetery in France.
Before going into the Army he attended Southeastern college, Hammond, and had worked for a time in Baton Rouge. He entered the Army on Jan. 7, 1942, at the age of 21, and served overseas two years.
