A loving mother and grandmother, she passed away at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was 83, a native of Jack and a resident of Greensburg. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Religious service at St. Helena Catholic Church, Amite, at 11 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Greensburg Cemetery. She was a devoted wife for 50 years to the late William Matthew Smith Sr. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Dupepe, Amite, and Imelda Travis, Greensburg; two sons, Billy Smith, Folsom, and Jerry Smith, Amite; 12 grandchildren, Lorie Travis, Darrell and Greg Dupepe, Shawn Travis Hurst, Mitchell and Ashelee Travis, Matt Smith, Valarie Holder and Karmen Culotta and Adam, Alan and Abby Smith; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by three sisters, Marguerite Silbernagel, Bertha Davis and Virgie Mae Courtney; two brothers, Ray Durnin and Norman Durnin; and parents, John E. Durnin and Emma Rohner Durnin. Pallbearers will be Darrell and Greg Dupepe, Mitchell Travis, Matt Smith and Adam and Alan Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Huey B. Travis, Mike Culotta, Ben Holder and Willie Hurst. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Greensburg.
