81, FOUND DEAD AMONG 13 DOGS
Aged Man's Last Thought Was Food for Canines
Eighty-one-year-old William Ahsenmacher was always fond of dogs. He would always feed his dogs, friends recalled, before he would feed himself.
Late Friday he fell from a step-ladder at his home, 1534 Piety and was carried into his kitchen by a neighbor.
Typically, as he lay on the floor, apparently only slightly injured, he thought first about his 13 dogs. He pleaded with the neighbor to buy three cases of dog food for his pets.
The neighbor, William Heuscher 76, got the dog food, placed it on a chair near the old man and left.
Huescher returned about 9 a. m. Saturday to visit Ahsenmacher. The old man was still lying on the floor in the kitchen. Around him were the dogs. One of them bit Huescher.
Ahsenmacher was dead. His head and face were clawed, chewed and mangled. During the night the dogs had attacked him. The coroner's office has scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Fall Is Blames In Man's Death
________________
The Orleans parish coroner's office reported Sunday a 79-year-old man found dead in the kitchen of his home at 1534 Piety among his 13 pet dogs, had died of a fractured pelvis and internal bleeding.
The injuries were presumed to have occurred when William Ahsenmacher, widower and carpenter, fell from a stepladder at his home early Friday night.
He was found lying in an alley at his home by a neighbor, who carried him inside and laid him on the kitchen floor. The neighbor returned at 9 a. m. Saturday and found Ahsenmacher dead.
The office reported the dogs had started to destroy their master. However, he was probably dead before the dogs assailed him, the coroner's office said.
The death, however, is still under investigation by the coroner.

HERD OF 'ORPHANED DOGS' SEEK HOMES
William Ahsenmacher, 81, fell off a stepladder last Friday and died Saturday morning. He left a "herd" of 10 dogs, reports Mrs. Alvin Adolph, VErnon 5-8180. Eight of the dogs still need to find homes.
"I was asked by another dog lover if I would take over the herd" Mrs. Adolph said. "The SPCA moved the dogs to their animal shelter Saturday but could not keep them indefinitely. Miss Marie Rosato was very co-operative. She let me move the 10 dogs from the SPCA to Dr. Vincent LiRocchi Jr.'s.
"Mrs. Grace R. Roe amd Mrs. Gertrude Trottman are defraying expenses of the dogs boarding at Dr. LiRocchi's - but they cannot keep that up indefinitely, either.
We are advertising to find good homes for these pets and have already placed two. The eight dogs left are all mixed breeds; one deformed hind legs. All will be given free."
