Long Illness Fatal to Veteran Real Estate Operator

Philip J. Derbes, Sr., real estate operator, died Saturday morning at Hotel Dieu after an illness of several weeks. He was 63 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Derbes were conducted Saturday at 3 p. m. at the funeral home of Jacob Schoen and Son, 519 Elysian Fields avenue, with services at St. Dominic's church in Lakeview. Interment was in Metairie cemetery.
Mr. Derbes had been engaged in the real estate business for 35 years and was one of the principal developers of Lakeview. He was for many years a member of the firm of Stafford, Derbes and Roy and of the New Orleans real estate board. At one time Mr. Derbes was a member of the board of directors of the Union Homestead Association. He resigned from this board about 18 months ago. Mr. Derbes was active until a short time before his death.
Mr. Derbes resided for many years on West End Boulevard. He was a native of New Orleans and educated in Jesuit college. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks ' Club.
He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Bertha de Generes of New Orleans; five daughters, Mrs. E. C. Landry of Washington, Mrs. L. J. Drueull, Mrs. Maurice Seghers, Mrs. Irby Richard and Miss Noel Derbes of New Orleans; five sons, George Derbes of Pottsville, Pa., Clarence J. Derbes of Shreveport, Philip J. Derbes, Jr., David Derbes and Benjamin Derbes of New Orleans, and four brothers, Louis J. Derbes of Houma, Rudolph , Albert and Charles Derbes of New Orleans.
