Maxime Joseph Derbes, III passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

He was born December 19, 1947 to the late Kathleen McCoullough and Max J. Derbes, Jr. in New Orleans, LA and has been a resident of Covington since 1960. He graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1965 where he was student council president for both his junior and senior years. He received his B.A. in Administrative Sciences from Yale University in 1969. He was also captain of the Yale judo team and won the Connecticut State Championship in 1968. Max was a loving and devoted husband of 42 years to Julianne Pott Derbes and is survived by three children: Alexander Benjamin Derbes, Zachary John Derbes, Christina Claire Derbes; one brother, David Stephen Derbes and two grandchildren, Mia Marie Derbes and Max Benjamin Derbes and daughter in law Kelly Marie Derbes. He will remain in their hearts as a great and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather forever.

As President of Max J. Derbes, Inc., his life work was in the Real Estate Industry. He was actively involved in the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, Counselors of Real Estate, CCIM, the Elmwood Business Association and Legatus Northshore. Max won numerous awards over his career in Real Estate, most recently was the top overall industrial agent by volume for 2007 and handled the largest industrial real estate transaction during that year. He was also a parishioner and Eucharistic minister of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the wake on Friday, February 15, 2008 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA from 6-9:00 PM. and to attend the funeral mass on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the chapel at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway App, Mandeville, LA 70471 with visitation beginning at 10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Maxime Joseph Derbes III, an award-winning industrial and commercial real estate broker, died of renal carcinoma at his home in Covington on Feb. 13. He was 60.

Mr. Derbes was active in the national, state and local levels of the National Association of Realtors.

He was actively involved in the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, Counselors of Real Estate and the Elmwood Business Association, among others.

Mr. Derbes won numerous awards during his career in real estate. Most recently, he was the top overall industrial agent in the New Orleans area by volume for 2007.

He was involved in several civic organizations and charities, was a member of Legatus Northshore and was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville.

He also was chairman of the Hope Ball for the American Cancer Society in 2000.

Mr. Derbes was born in New Orleans. He graduated from Saint Paul's School in Covington in 1965, where he was student council president during both his junior and senior years.

He received a bachelor's degree in administrative sciences from Yale University in 1969. He was captain of the Yale judo team and won the Connecticut State Championship in 1968.

Derbes bought the firm his grandfather founded, Max J. Derbes Inc., from his father in 1978 after developing an interest in industrial brokerage. In 1979, he opened Max J. Derbes Inc. as a full-service firm specializing in industrial and commercial real estate.

Survivors include his wife, Julianne Pott Derbes; two sons, Alexander Benjamin Derbes and Zachary John Derbes; a daughter, Christina Claire Derbes; a brother, David Stephen Derbes; and two grandchildren.

A Mass was celebrated on Feb. 16 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Abbey cemetery in Covington.
