A resident of Amite, he died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home. He was 91 and a native of Roseland. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visitation at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Casey Tingle and the Rev. Pat Bourg. Interment in Roberts Cemetery, Hillsdale. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertha Durnin Davis, Amite; a daughter, Joyce Annette "Joy" Davis, Amite; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Frances Davis, Amite; three grandsons, Scott and wife DeDe Davis, Roseland, Brian Davis, Amite, and Steven Davis, St. Amant; and four great-granddaughters, Harley, Christine, Kelsey and Briley Davis. Preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Newton and Letha Gipson Davis; six brothers and seven sisters.
He was a member of Amite Lions Club, Amite Masonic Lodge and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a deacon at Kedron Baptist Church, Amite.
