MERCHANT DIES;BURIAL TUESDAY
Richard Abide Partner in Firm 40 Years
Richard Abide, 65, a partner in the Kelley & Abide Company dry goods firm at 222 Chartres, died at 1:30 p. m. Sunday at his home at 5040 St. Bernard after a long illness.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Jacob Schoen & Son auxiliary funeral home, 3827 Canal, with religious rites following at St. Frances Cabrini church. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Abide was one of the founders of the Kelley & Abide Company 40 years ago and had been a partner since that time. He was also president of the Kaleb Corporation, a land company here.
He was born in Lebanon and came to New Orleans in 1914.
Mr. Abide was a member of Council 714, Knights of Columbus; the Cedar Club, and the Chamber of Commerce of the New Orleans Area.
Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Mary Kelley; two sons, Ellis and A. J. Abide; five daughters, Mrs. H. S. Joseph, Mrs. Wade Shibley, Miss Amelie Abide, Miss Rosemary Abide, all of New Orleans, and Mrs. N. J. Nolan, Baton Rouge; two brothers, Philip Abide, New Orleans, and Ellis Abide, Lebanon; two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Abide, Greenwood, Miss., and Mrs. Rasha Mohana, Lebanon, and five grandchildren.
