N.O. INSURANCE EXECUTIVE DIES
Crane, 39, Was Active in Theatrical Affairs
Robert H. Crane, a New Orleans insurance executive active in theatrical affairs, died in Charity Hospital saturday afternoon apparently of injuries he sustained in a traffic accident here Thursday. He was 39.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. Francis Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Ave., Monday at 9 a.m. Mass will be said by the Rev. Harry L. Crane, S.J., Mr. Crane's uncle.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Jacob Schoen & Son, Inc., 3800 Canal, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crane died after he was involved in an accident on Pontchartrain Expressway that occurred when a car he was driving in a riverbound direction collided with another vehicle that went out of control in the lakebound lane and crossed the median into his path, according to police.
Mr. Crane, who resided at 5915 Alfred, had been in the insurance business for 15 years and was associated with the Union Life Insurance Co. and the Ferd Marks-Smither Agency at the time of his death.
Mr. Crane was a 1947 graduate of Jesuit High school, attended Loyola University and also studied at Harvard University.
Mr. Crane, a New Orleans native, was involved with such theatrical organizations as Gallery Circle Theater and New Orleans Recreation Department Theater and frequently participated as an actor, both in leading and supporting roles.
He was also a member of Vista Shores Club, the New Orleans Athletic Club, various Carnival organizations and the United Fund.
He was division chairman for Kingsley House fund raising drive in 1965, a member of the Gallery Circle Theater board of directors, taught at Dominican College and Loyola University, was a member of Holy Name Society and was a volunteer worker for NORD.
He was vice-president of New Orleans Association of Health Underwriters and a member of Louisiana Insurance Agents Association and New Orleans Life Underwriters Association.
Most recently he served as a captain for Manresa Retreat House in Convent, La.
Mr. Crane is survived by his widow, the former Miss Barbara Egloff of New Orleans: four children. Stephen Crane, Michael Crane, Julia Crane and Lisa Crane, all of New Orleans: his mother, Mrs. George E. Crane of New Orleans; three sisters. Mrs. Charles Deimel of New Orleans, Mrs. George V. Werner of Baton Rouge and K. J. Lindsley of Memphis, Tenn., and two brothers, George E. Crane Jr. of Shreveport and Raymond Crane of Mobile, Ala.

TRAFFIC DEATH TOLL INCREASES
N.O. Insurance Official Crane Killed
The Coroner's office Sunday classified the death of Robert H. Crane, 39, 5915 Alfred, as a traffic fatality.
His death brings to eight the number of motor vehicle traffic accident fatalities in New Orleans since Jan. 1.
Mr. Crane, a local insurance executive who was active in theatrical affairs here, died Saturday afternoon in Charity Hospital of injuries suffered in a traffic accident Thursday.
According to police, the car which Mr. Crane was driving in a riverbound direction on the Pontchartrain Expressway near the Jefferson Davis overpass was involved in a collision with a lakebound vehicle which went out of control during a heavy rain and crossed a median strip into the path of Mr. Crane's car.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. Frances Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Ave., at 9 a.m. Monday. Mass will be said by the Rev. Harry L. Crane, S.J., Mr. Crane's uncle.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Joseph Hogan, Al Landry, Fred Werner, Richard Crane, Sam Ryan and Robert Landry.
Honorary pallbearers will include John Fraser, Lawrence Hennessey, George Scott, Larry Youngblood, Michael Valude and Donald Meyer.
